July 05, 2006 -- (Pakistan Press International Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Lahore: The sixth meeting of the Board of Directors of Technology Up gradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC) was held at its head office with Almas Hyder, Chairman in the chair. The meeting reviewed the future plans and progress on the current projects of the company.
The Board was briefed in detail about TUSDEC project of setting up Karachi Tools, Dies and Moulds Centre (KTDMC). The construction work is underway and hopefully the project would be completed within the stipulated time.
KTDMC would primarily focus on improving the skills of the engineers and designers, enhancing the quality of designing, engineering and manufacturing of local tools, dies and moulds through latest technology including Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). The Board members expressed their satisfaction on the pace of the work on this project.
Other projects which were discussed include setting up of eight Skill Development Centers (SDCs) in earth-quake hit areas to help local population acquire skills in construction, furniture making and hospitality. Setting up of CAD/CAM Centers in different cities of the country including one at Lahore, which would also serve as 'train the trainers' centre.
The Board was also briefed on the recently CDWP approved project for Technical Up gradation of Garment Industry through hiring of foreign experts on long term basis to be placed in the top exporting factories. The Board appreciated the concept of hiring experts to enhance key skills such as dyeing & finishing, knitting, sewing, laundering etc which are urgently required to help grow this sector.
The Board lauded TUSDEC performance and suggested that full efforts should continue on meeting goals particularly in the earthquake stricken areas and earliest development of CAD/CAM initiatives.
