09/01/2006 -- There's a lot to like about the 2007 FJ Cruiser, beginning with its ultra-hip exterior design. But whether you actually do like it or not depends entirely on your point of view. While many consumers love the styling of Toyota's newest SUV, it has stirred up controversy because of the trendy design.

The FJ Cruiser is available in base trim, Package B, or Package C, and starts at $29,990. Standard equipment is sparse, with features such as air conditioning, six-speaker CD stereo with MP3/WMA playback and auxiliary jack, ABS, traction control, power windows and locks, and front airbags. Buyers should at least opt for Package B, which adds Toyota's Active Traction Control System, cruise control, clearance and back-up sensors, power-adjustable mirrors, rear wiper, 115V power outlet and keyless entry. Package C is the top level, with a premium eight-speaker stereo with six-disc CD changer, side-curtain airbags, temperature gauge, inclinometer and compass.

Fuel economy for the manual transmission is rated at 14.5 litres/100 kilometres in the city and 11.2 litres/100 km on the highway. The automatic is more efficient, getting 13.6 litres/100 km and 10.3 litres/100 km. It should be noted that the FJ requires premium, 91-octane gasoline.
