Tmote Mini combines a Texas Instruments MSP430 microcontroller with a TI/Chipcon CC2420 low-power radio, forming the mote core for use in wireless sensor network applications. The Tmote Mini line is offered in two configurations: a standard module that has 0dBm (1mW) output power at 2.4GHz and an enhanced module with +20dBm (100mW) output power at 2.4GHz.

The sensor board can be interfaced with commercial Zigbee-based devices, e.g., motes. The system currently supports acoustic and seismic input signals, although it can be configured for other types of sensory inputs. Applications include acoustic localization and tracking of moving vehicles and gunshot detection, localization and classification.

Jennic touts sub-$3 price for new wireless MCUs

The JN513x family second-generation wireless MCUs realizes a number of improvements over the existing solution. The devices use a new modem architecture that provides 97dB receive sensitivity, and is more robust in noisier environments with greater tolerance to carrier offset and EVM. Transmit power is also improved to 3dbm.
