Sonus supplies small ultrasonic sensors

April 2007 -- Sonus claims that its new miniature ultrasonic sensor generation is the most compact ultrasonic sensor on the market, with its tiny housing of just 12 x 14 x 27 mm.

These sensors are suitable for installation in the smallest spaces or for the assembly of several sensors in the tightest places. Ultrasonic technology permits objects to be detected regardless of their colour or transparency. Due to their small mass of less than 4 grams, the new Sonus sensors are well suited for installation in all light, fast-moving handling units.

Although the units are miniature, their performance data is anything but minute. The scanning range is up to 200 mm for the digitally switching proximity sensors, retro-reflective types and for the distance measuring versions with analog voltage outputs. All three sensors have a means of parametric learning with a standardised Teach-in sequence. The desired switching points and scanning ranges of the sensors and the polarity of the 0-10 V d.c. analog output can be configured by the user. Industrial applications make high demands on the installation, electrical wiring and user-friendliness of sensors. The sensor variants, such as the cable type, M8x1 plug or cable plug help to meet these demands.
