Rojac Tooling Technologies, members of the Accelerate Business Development Network, were the winners of BEST TOOLMAKER at the Metalworking Production Awards 2006. The awards took place on Tuesday 16th May at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

Specialising in the design and manufacture of mould tooling for a wide range of applications, Rojac makes extensive use of web-based project management using its own, in-house developed system, allowing secure 24/7customer access. Rojac’s system includes online CAD viewers, live web cams, timing plans, photos and documents.

The company does business with a diverse range of market sectors including aerospace, automotive, special effects, Formula 1 and medical, specialising in large, five-axis CNC machining of composite, compression, PU, and RTM tooling, with the ability to take a product from development through to final production, large volume and prototypes.

The plant has extensive CAD/CAM facilities, eight high spec, large capacity, CNC machine tools including five-axis machining up to 4 by 2,5 by 1.7m, CMM inspection, extensive toolmaking machinery, plus a prototype/low volume manufacturing facility. While the CNC machine tools are typically three to four years old, the CAD systems are continually updated to allow the company to compete on a global basis.

Rapid response is key, with quotations usually provided within 24 hours. All projects are extensively planned, with detailed, resourced timing plans managed online with its OPMcreator system, giving customers secure access to project tracking data. High levels of design and customer support, extensive CAD design and manufacturing plus web collaboration with customers on design, allows customers to view tooling designs via a web browser.

Web-based collaboration and project management with customers via OPMcreator reduces the need for visits to view tooling being manufactured, eliminating travel time, phone calls, meetings and paperwork. The live web cams, timing plans, photos, CAD viewers and so on allow customers to track up-to-the-minute progress; 24 hour access being ideal for international customers.

For one customer in India – who never had to visit the site – the entire transaction from quotation, design, manufacture and delivery was managed via the Internet.
