April 27, 2007 -- There is just over a week left before the 2007 Canadian RFID Conference, the largest and most comprehensive forum of its kind in the country.
Merit-Trax Technologies is a company that develops and implements integrated traceability solutions to solve inventory, production, supply chain, quality control and health & safety problems in real-time.
Merit-Trax Technologies is the developer of Trax-IT© software business and logistics solutions for the Food, Health Care and Laboratory industries.
Merit-Trax has successfully implemented the first RFID based system in a slaughterhouse/meat packing plant in North America. RFID has played an important role in the automation, the capture and the integration of supply-chain and food-safety data at Atlantic Beef Products of PEI. The system provides full traceability of a particular animal to each individual cut of meat. This system has proven extremely beneficial to producers with valuable data information such as which type of animal sells better and which types of cuts sell faster.
Prior to using RFID, Atlantic Beef used barcode tags for identification of the animals. The barcode tags could not be read and would not be reliable on the slaughter floor due to all the processes. Presently, each hook that carries each animal has an RFID tag affixed to them.
Tracking each animal on each hook has now become simple, fast, reliable because they can now be read under all processing conditions.
This innovative solution based on RFID technology received the Gold Award for Excellence in Innovation at the 2006 Canadian Information Productivity Awards.
Merit-Trax will be presenting this award winning RFID solution at the upcoming 2007 Canadian RFID Conference. The 2007 Canadian RFID Conference will be held in Markham, ON on May 8th and 9th and will bring together some of the most experienced people in the industry.
