Qtel-funded lab opens at Qatar University

3/27/2006. DOHA: Qtel CEO Dr Nasser Marafih and the university's Vice-President and Chief Academic Officer, Dr Sheikha bint Jabor Al Thani, jointly opened the lab.

Also present were Qtel's executive director for Group Communications, Waleed Al Sayed, other senior Qtel officials as well as faculty and senior staff from Qatar University. Dr Marafih said on the occasion, "Qtel and Qatar University share a long standing relationship. Several of our top managers and executives have graduated from Qatar University. We are confident that the students from Qatar University will greatly benefit from this state-of-the-art laboratory.

"The progress and development of educational institutions and foundations in Qatar require the joint cooperation of both industries and the institutions in question. This is fundamental for advancing the knowledge of our students and most importantly giving them access to the best in technologies, ideas and experience; to further grow their potential.”

Dr Sheikha bint Jabor Al Thani said, "We appreciate the role Qtel has played in supporting the University of Qatar's ongoing programme to provide quality education for students in the country.

"The laboratory, sponsored by Qtel, will greatly serve the needs of our engineering and research students.

"Our strong relationship with Qtel has ensured that we are always looking for opportunities to further enhance and strengthen our relationship. This will bring about benefits for the students which in turn will help develop students to become qualified spokespersons for providing valuable research information both locally and internationally. This is especially true for corporations in the oil and gas; medical and health; IT and telecom sectors," Dr Sheikha concluded.
