Julie Bieles, 29 September 2005 – A polymer wheelchair has been developed by the French Commissariat a l’Energie Atomique (CEA) to allow users to pass through airport control points without triggering alarms.

The non-magnetic Pass’port wheelchair has no metal components. LCD Concept, a French manufacturer of equipment for people with reduced mobility, requested the development.

The innovation – the first of its type according to CEA – is based on polymer research from the CEA Le Ripault Centre. The Pass’port is manufactured entirely from plastic using rotomoulding, and is made from 100% recyclable materials.

LCD Concept will unveil the wheelchair to major manufacturers, market decision-makers and the press today at Tours airport.
