Instrumentation can be used to refer to the field in which Instrument technicians and engineers work, or it can refer to the available methods of measurement and control and the instruments which facillitate this. Our goal is to provide daily news and press releases from manufacturers of instrumentation related devices and products.

Imperx Introduces "Cool" Cameras for Low-Noise Applications

Submitted by nestorb on Fri, 2007-06-08 17:35.
Many scientific and low light-level applications face challenges from thermal noise in the CCD sensor. Controlling this noise allows cameras to operate with long exposure times and provide greater pixel-by pixel accuracy. Because thermal noise decreased by 3 dB for every 6C drop in temperature, the best way to control thermal noise is to cool the image sensor as much as possible.

Non-contact torque sensor is one in a million

Submitted by nestorb on Thu, 2007-06-07 13:34.
At the heart of the TorqSense sensor is pair of tiny, interleaved, comb-shaped arrays laid onto one end of a piezoelectric substrate. By passing an alternating voltage across the terminals of these arrays, surface waves are produced in the substrate. The waves are received by a similar array at the other end which converts them back into an electric signal.

Exar Unveils Industry's First Single and Dual-Channel UART with Integrated RS-485 Transceiver Product Family -- Supports 8Mbps

Submitted by nestorb on Wed, 2007-06-06 14:38.
The XR19L402/400 series offers different packaging and modem interface options. Both devices can operate in four different modes: active, partial sleep, full sleep and Power-Save. Each mode can be invoked via hardware or software. Upon power-up, the device is in the active mode where the UART and RS-485 transceiver function normally. In the partial sleep mode, the internal crystal oscillator of the UART, or the charge pump of the RS-485 transceiver, is turned off
