Mar 20, 2007 -- ProMinent Fluid Controls has introduced ProMcon, a budget-level unit with a new approach to cooling tower water control. Two simple configurations offer blow-down using conductivity or volumetric measurements. A readout of total dissolved solids (TDS) is provided.

The first configuration features a conductivity sensor to measure TDS. This measurement is used to determine the portion of the circulating water flow that is removed in order to maintain the amount of dissolved solids and other impurities at an acceptable level. Fresh make-up water is then added. In the second configuration, the blow-down is achieved by maintaining a ratio between the fresh water make-up and blow-down.

ProMcon is based around ProMinent's popular D1C controller, featuring an input for the conductivity sensor or a make-up water flow meter. An additional 4-20 mA input is provided  for a second measurement sensor such as chlorine, ozone or bromine, which allows the biocide concentration in the water to be monitored.

Control modes for ProMcon are available in English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. For TDS-controlled blow-down, the set point range is from 100 to 5000 µS/cm. A number of timers are provided for independent control of two biocides.  The system is protected by alarms for conductivity and auxiliary inputs. An audit trail of conductivity values, auxiliary values and alarm values and history can be printed out via an RS232 interface.
