Many industrial processes utilise photodiodes to accurately measure the colour of objects for quality control and colour matching purposes. Consumer products using LEDs as backlighting for LCDs similarly use RGB photodiodes for monitoring the colour balance of these LEDs. Traditionally individual photodiodes with RGB filters have been used for this purpose.
The S9702 integrates all three sensors onto a single, miniaturised surface mount package to save space whilst maintaining a relatively large sensitive area of 1mm.
