September 06, 2006 -- SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, announces that its MicroScribe(R) family of portable coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) has been integrated with Verisurf Software's Common Inspection Platform software suite. Immersion is introducing this solution in Chicago at the IMTS show, September 6 - 13, booth #D-4289. The combined solution supports native import and editing of all major CAD file types. It also enables real-time high-accuracy measurement and analysis for efficient parts inspection and reverse engineering projects.
The solution includes capabilities to support traditional blueprint part inspection. The model-based definition software automatically imports CAD model specifications including full geometric dimensioning and tolerancing descriptions. Users can quickly validate geometries simply by taking measurements with the MicroScribe portable CMM. These inspection points are displayed on the computer screen and tagged in red (out of tolerance) or green (within tolerance). The solution also provides automatic feature recognition, which helps ensure that a complete inspection is performed efficiently. An inspection report is automatically produced for each entity inspected.
"The Verisurf/MicroScribe software/hardware solution will let users improve measurement quality and speed, which leads to improved manufacturing productivity," said Mike Zuckerman, senior vice president and general manager, Immersion's 3D Products business group. "The software stands out in the market as delivering model-based definition and comprehensive reporting with a very clear and intuitive user interface. The MicroScribe portable CMM also contributes ease of use, as well as accuracies up to 0.002-inch. In addition, the total solution comes at a very competitive price."
"The Verisurf and MicroScribe solution supplies tremendous power for many manufacturing businesses at a new price point," said Ernie Husted, president, Verisurf Software. "The automation, accuracy, and productivity advantages can provide a major process improvement for businesses that thought this level of quality was out of their reach."
