The HVSys hight-voltage and control system provides high-voltage bias to an array of up to 254 photomultipliers by utilizing photomultiplier tube (pmt) power bases controlled by a PC with a PCI/RS485 interface. Software control sets individual voltage for each pmt and monitors voltage, current and temperature. The power bases connect directly to the pmt, thereby eliminating the need for resistive dividers and high-voltage wiring.
The system can source up to 1800 V of either polarity and may be configured for any photomultiplier type. Further expansion may be achieved by using additional RS485 cards.
The HVSys is suitable for instruments using one or more photomultipliers, high-energy physics, neutron detectors, security scanning systems and astrophysics experiments.
By eliminating the need for resistive dividers and high-voltage wiring, the system simplifies integration, improves performance and can achieve more than 60 percent cost savings over conventional high-voltage arrays.
