Halma buys German firm for €4.5m

18th Apr 2006 -- Halma, which makes fire and gas detectors, said it had bought Stuttgart-based Mikropack from Gerald Nitsch, Dieter Steck and Photonics Investments.

Mikropack makes specialist light sources and photonic accessories used for analytical spectroscopic systems.

Halma said it is paying €2.25m up front in cash plus a further €2.25m based on Mikropack's earnings performance up to March next year.

"This acquisition will enhance Halma's world-leading photonic businesses and will play an important role in our future optical sensor developments," said Halma.

Halma's chief executive Andrew Williams added, "The acquisition not only secures this important technology but strengthens our position in Europe and provides a better platform for further geographical expansion of all of the Group's photonics products."
