3/27/2007 -- North Hykeham, UK - Fujikura Europe Ltd. recently announced the launch of two test and measurement tools for optical fiber. The products represent Fujikura's growing presence in the singlemode fiber test market.

The FLS-20T, a hand-held, battery-operated, dual laser light source with protective rubber boot, is designed to be used in conjunction with an optical power meter to measure optical power loss over a fibre network. The device can operate at two wavelengths, 1310µm and 1550µm, and can incorporate selectable modes of signal from continuous wave light and modulated tones of 270Hz, 1KHz and 2KHz. The FVI-01, a miniature, keyring-size, battery-operated red laser light source, enables engineers to identify faults, bends, breaks and low quality splices or connections.

"As the roll-out of optical fibre around Europe gathers speed, and users of high-bandwidth services demand high performance and high reliability, the need for portable test devices is growing rapidly," said Ian Tweedle at Fujikura. "To manufacture our own T&M equipment is a logical step for Fujikura. These additions also complement our extensive range of fibre optic products and solutions, including singlemode, multimode and speciality fibre, fusion splicers, optical connectors and components."

Also in the Fujikura fibre optics product range is the FID-20R fibre identifier: a hand-held, battery-operated accessory with an integrated power meter unit for the detection of mode signal and modulated tones from a laser light source. A key feature of the FID-20R is its slim design, which facilitates the clamping of fibres positioned in splice trays. The fibre identifier also has the optional versatility of adapting SC/ST/FC connector heads.
