Free onsite calibration from a qualified engineer?
Submitted by nestorb on Fri, 2007-06-01 23:30. Have they gone mad? It seems not: Hach Lange says that all you have to do is purchase two packs of their high quality reagents for every free calibration...and you are probably buying them already!
Cerno Bioscience Offers New Online Calibration Tutorial for MassWorks
Submitted by nestorb on Wed, 2007-03-21 23:25. The new Cerno Bioscience tutorial describes how, when using classical calibration methods, Mass Spectrometry (MS) data is calibrated for mass position only. This approach leads to substantial errors due to the undefined peak shape, noise, and the empirical basis of conventional centroiding algorithms...
100% contamination of Euro notes with Cocaine
Submitted by nestorb on Sat, 2007-01-20 07:16. Using a technique involving chromatography/mass spectrometry, a sample of 45 bank notes were analysed to show the level of contamination by cocaine. The cotton structure of the Euro bank notes adsorbs chemical residues, making it relatively easy to analyse. While all of the notes proved positive for cocaine contamination, three showed the presence of heroin.
AST Detector Coatings Used In Spectrometers
Submitted by nestorb on Tue, 2007-01-09 23:40. Detectors are coated with GOrg, a unique organic phosphor used exclusively by AST for robust UV applications as part of its ExtendUV range of phosphors. This high-efficiency phosphor is excited at wavelengths between 150 and 400 nm with an emission peak at 545 nm...
USAF closer to 'on-demand' satellites
Submitted by nestorb on Fri, 2006-12-29 12:50. The ARTEMIS -- it stands for "Advanced Responsive Tactically Effective Military Imaging Spectrometer" -- payloads would be kept at the ready so they can be quickly assembled to the particular mission specs and then moved quickly to the launch site...
OEM mass spectrometer has open architecture
Submitted by nestorb on Wed, 2006-12-13 16:28. The cost/performance of this machine and its open architecture should make it appealing to colleges and universities
X-Ray Molecular Spectrometer helps identifiy potential threats.
Submitted by nestorb on Thu, 2006-12-07 13:13. Interpreting standard checkpoint 2-D X-Ray tomography to identify containers and their contents, Optosecurity X-Ray Molecular Spectrometer recognizes potential threats according to their unique molecular signatures and identifies innocuous materials and liquids that may be assembled into explosives.
Spectro delivers 25,000th analytical instrument
Submitted by nestorb on Tue, 2006-12-05 12:50. The instrument, a Spectro Ciros Vision ICP-OES spectrometer, was purchased by Acme Analytical Laboratories in Vancouver, British Columbia, to examine environmental and geological samples
EU distributor for Dart mass spec ion source
Submitted by nestorb on Sat, 2006-11-25 12:50. Dart (direct analysis in real time) is an ion source that fits many LC-MS instruments and enables analysis of samples on surfaces in real time without any sample preparation
TAMUQ gets Qatar’s first hi-tech spectrometer
Submitted by nestorb on Fri, 2006-11-17 23:06. In addition, the instrument is equipped with accessories that allows to run experiments at temperatures varying from -80 degree C to 10 degree C, and with the broadband probe spectra can be collected for Hydrogen, Carbon, Phosphorus, Nitrogen, and Fluorine nuclei.
