Test & Measurement World, 9/23/2005 -- The microprocessor-based, two-channel Synergy controller, which utilizes the Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2 embedded operating system, can serve in electronics, aerospace, and automotive environmental-testing applications requiring the precise measurement and control of temperature, humidity, altitude, and vibration.

The device is available standard with either a front- or flush-mounted 320x240-pixel color touch screen. In addition to offering the programming of temperature, humidity, altitude, and vibration versus time, it provides six event outputs. A 100-ohm platinum RTD provides temperature measurement, whereas a dry-capacitance-type sensor provides humidity measurement. The controller supports 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, RS-232/485, and GPIB communications. The instrument weighs 5 lbs. and measures 9.50x6.75x5.50 in.

The HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening) and HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing) test methods, developed by QualMark, were designed to expose product failures quickly so they can be rectified prior to becoming costly field issues. HALT testing identifies design defects and weaknesses in electronics and electromechanical assemblies, while HASS is used to find manufacturing process-induced defects in these same assemblies. Tidal Engineering reports that in addition to working with HALT and HASS chambers developed by QualMark, the Synergy controller can be used with chambers from Blue M, Cincinnati Sub-Zero, Envirotronics, and Thermotron.

Base price: $2755. A free, 30-day demo offer is available through Tidal’s authorized distributor, American Distributors Inc.
